| In 1987, the World Health Commission defined “Sustainable Development” as “Development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” It was to meet the goal of sustainable development that organizations such as the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) were created. These organizations focus on the development of forest management standards and participants include loggers, paper mills, paper merchants, printers and ultimately, the end-user. Choosing a FSC or SFI paper for your project supports these very worthy causes. You will be able to print one of these logos on your printed material, showing that you support their endeavors. If you’re interested in printing your work on certified papers, then you need to take a few things into consideration. First, there are limited paper stocks (including tabs, paper for oversize jobs, cover stocks, etc.) that are FSC or SFI certified. So it’s important to know in advance what stocks are available. If you cannot find them online, we can assist you. Remember, all the paper products included in your job need to be certified in order for you to print the logo on your promotional material. Next, it’s important to give us time to get the appropriate approvals from the certification organizations. This can take a few days so, plan accordingly. Please call and ask for Sheryl Read if you’re interested in supporting these causes. |
